EMMA BLACKERY – SINGLE REVIEW

Emma Blackery – Agenda

Emma Blackery - Agenda

Release Date: Out Now

Every time I see a picture of Emma Blackery, I think of Sharon Horgan and then I think about what great, acerbic pop music Sharon Horgan would make. And then I stop thinking and realise that Emma Blackery is making great, acerbic pop music so I can just stop looking around for something better. Blackery’s new single ‘Agenda’ starts with the bouncy pop click of a Little Mix track but the lyrics give the game away immediately. This might be sing-a-long pop with playground melodies that will burrow in to your brain but the message is far more hard hitting and unapologetic as Blackery makes clear that she’s not up for fitting a pigeon hole, performing a role or doing what is expected of her by society or ‘the man’. So, music you can dance and have fun to but an empowering message to give this a bit of substance. It’s like Stock, Aitken and Waterman got to work with Patti Smith….or not.
