LAUREN RUTH WARD – SINGLE REVIEW

Lauren Ruth Ward – Blue Collar Sex Kitten
Lauren Ruth Ward - Blue Collar Sex Kitten

Release Date: Out Now

Sometimes, in this blogging business, you come across something that makes you skip back to the start after 30 seconds and sit up straight. Sometimes, you hear a track by an artist you’ve never heard before and you’re forced to stop what you’re typing and just listen. Sometimes doesn’t come around often enough but when it does it is very, very special. Baltimore’s Lauren Ruth Ward (now LA resident) has provided one of those special ‘sometimes’ moments on new single ‘Blue Collar Sex Kitten’ and from the second you read that song title you know you’re in for a treat. There’s an anticipatory crackle and buzz at the start of this track before a simple, primal riff rolls over the hill like a pack of Hells Angels at dusk. The roll of the Viking-esque drums is tamed only by Lauren Ruth Ward’s voice that has power and purity in equal measure as the blue-rock stomp continues apace. I feel like I’ve wondered in to an underground bar in 70s America with Vietnam vets on one side and freaks on the other all letting this beast of a song wash over them and cleanse their soiled souls. This is absolutely essential listening, from the squall and throb of the guitars to the pounding drums and Janice Joplin-channelling vocals, you need this in your life and you need to invest some of your life in to this.
