Cardiff trio Codewalkers are back
with their blend of Hip-Hop, Reggae and dub on new single ‘Warrior’ which is
far less confrontational than I expected it to be but that’s at the heart of
the song. Atop a gentle piano skank and with percussion skitting around in the
backgroung, vocalist Seun Babatola challenges perceptions of what it takes to
be a fighter in the modern day. In a day where struggling across three jobs
just to keep a roof over your head and food in your children’s bellies is a
regular occurrence, everyone is fighting their own battle. Links to Rudimental,
Audioweb and Faithless are, perhaps, obvious comparisons but when the music and
the message is this good then it’s hard not to place a band like Codewalkers
shoulder to shoulder with such luminaries.
