APHRA – SINGLE REVIEW

Aphra – Candyfloss

Aphra - Candyfloss

Release Date: Out Now

It’s not hugely unusual for a British female singer-songwriter to list Laura Marling, Kate Tempest and Lucy Rose as influences but it’s equally hugely gratifying that there are such excellent influences for new and upcoming artists, like Aphra, to draw from. This new single, ‘Candyfloss’, comes from the Norwich troubadour and it takes things on to a woozy new level with wonky organs and a lazily strummed acoustic riff fighting with varying tempos and Aphra’s subtly sassy vocal delivery. Aside from the aforementioned influences, there are elements of First Aid Kit, Regina Spektor, Kate Nash and Chloe Howl which makes for an entirely enjoyable slice of alt-folk-pop with a very English tip of the hat as a sign off (this is candyfloss, after all, not cotton candy).
