London funsters Eliphant have an adorably retro vibe that makes you want to saunter down Carnaby Street in tight trousers and a kaftan but equally there is a very modern vibe here too. New single ‘No Pressure’ has scratchy, jerky rhythm that is reminiscent of early Beatles material but also the likes of Redd Kross, the Kooks and the Libertines. The vocals are drawled and charming in a slightly sleazy manner and there’s a satisfying amount of grumble and fuzz on the guitars that gives this a pleasingly raw edge. I don’t think this is necessarily a smash hit in the making but as warning shots go this one should make you sit up straight and pay attention.
