Schneider comprise Copenhagen duo AyOwA and their ice-cold new single ‘Insomnia’
is far more befitting the condition than the Faithless song of the same name.
The sparse icicles of guitar notes drip hypnotically on to the gently vibrating
synth bass and a rhythm clicks in the background like the tock of an incessant
clock somewhere in the corner of your consciousness. Schneider’s voice is
perfectly poised and fragile with elements of Beth Orton, Beth Gibbons and Stina
Nordenstam all there in the delicate tapestry that is woven in the dark, still
night that refuses to give way to sleep. Chilling and unsettling but carefully
crafted with a very definite Nordic feel to it.
