BLACK FUTURES – SINGLE REVIEW

Black Futures – Karma Ya Dig?
Black Futures - Karma Ya Dig?

Release Date: Out Now

Sound the klaxon, release the ceremonial unicorns, break out the good cheese. We might have just found the single of the year and it’s been a hell of a year. This latest release from London duo Black Futures (great name) comes under the title ‘Karma Ya Dig?’ and it’s not just brilliant, it’s spiritual. Considering they describe themselves as Industrial noise-punk there’s a distinct Talking Heads meets Flaming Lips sense of the religious about the opening strains of “hey my friend, I’ll meet you on the other side”. They then settle in to a Beck-esque verse before blowing up in to a snarling, Royal Blood gone pop chorus replete with growling guitars, industrial beats and that aforementioned spiritual lyric. This is music to quit your job to, music to walk out on your shitty lover to, music to start afresh to. If you’re feeling down then this will lift you up, if you’re feeling pretty good then this will make you feel awesome and if you’re already feeling awesome, well, then let me know what this does to you if you are still of this world. Of course, no band called Black Futures is going to be entirely uplifting so watch the accompanying video – a snapshot of all the worst bits of humanity – to keep you grounded. Watch out for this at the end of the year when it comes to doling out the awards.
