SPACE - SINGLE REVIEW

Space -Strange World (Ocean Waves Productions)
Space - Strange World

Release Date: 19th October 2015

You remember Space, right? 'Neighbourhood', 'Female Of The Species', doing the Zutons before the Zutons were doing the Zutons? Well, they're back and jumping on that 90s reformation bandwagon with a new single in the shape of 'Strange World'. This return by the cheeky scouse quartet starts off with a mix of 80s and bayou rhythms before those trademark wobbly guitars and strained vocals kick in and the band are back to their sinister, swaggering best almost immediately. Some smoky trumpet and a Jazz-Mariachi vibe combine to make for a sound that is still stubbornly unique, even in today's market of musical saturation and genre bending. It's a weird one, really, it's like meeting up with a mate you used to knock about with who only had two good jokes and finding out that they've still only got two good jokes - albeit bloody good jokes.
