BLAIR DUNLOP - SINGLE REVIEW

Blair Dunlop - Fifty Shades Of Blue (Rooksmere Records)
Blair Dunlop - Fifty Shades of Blue

Release Date: 13th April 2015

Well this seems topical. Or a weird twist of fate that will either help or hinder this young British folk artist in his quest for acclaim and recognition. Blair Dunlop's new single 'Fifty Shades of Blue' has, as far as I know, got absolutely no connection to the similarly titled semi-erotic bondage novels that have seemingly aroused a nation of bored women but who am I to judge where inspiration springs from? The song itself has a melancholy, almost country inspired opening that takes parts of Damien Rice and I Am Kloot, mushes them together and brushes them off with a smooth veneer. Dunlop's voice is quietly assured and he strikes me as the kind of guy who would melt hearts and win friends without much effort but nor would he gloat about such powers of persuasion. A gentle but firm talent, then, and one that has some distance left to run.
