The idea of striking out on my
own as a musician at the age of 19 would have been utterly terrifying but that
is exactly what Londoner Kate Miller is doing. Already a seasoned songwriter of
some acclaim, Miller is shortly to be releasing an EP and this is the opening salvo
from said EP. 'Collar Up' is a brooding, moody little number with chugging,
tight guitars and vocals that are dripping in defiant attitude. The atmospheric
breakdown and vocal harmonies are pure pop heaven but there is an edge to this
tune that the likes of The XX and Delooze would be proud to call their own. So,
that's great songwriting, pop sensibilities and an edginess that is bordering
on sexy - well played Kate Miller, well played indeed.
