Gibraltar is not traditionally a
hot bed of new music and I don't know whether that says more about Gibraltar as
a creative country or the music world's approach to the smaller nations. Either
way, Hollie April is a Gibraltan resident and is also exceedingly talented so
we should all listen up. This latest single, 'Together Alone', begins with a haunting vocal like
the mists of early morning with the same atmospheric feel as Laura Marling at
her best. The acoustic guitar then kicks in with a firm strum and April's voice
takes on a more robust and guttural feel. By the end of this six minute opus,
there are elements of Ellie Goulding and Zoe Johnston about the song and that
is fine company to keep indeed. So that's Hollie April people - a big talent
from a small country.
