M+A are an Italian duo who
recently won the Glastonbury emerging talent competition which is a big burden
to shoulder but on the evidence of this new single they really couldn't care
less. You see, 'When' is a light, summery and very European sounding slice of
dance-pop that straddles the divide between the mainstream and the indie market
with a rolling piano melody, funky bass line and some gorgeous synth sounds
that bring Lemon Jelly or Bentley Rhythm Ace to mind with the sensibilities of
Soulwax of Ben's Symphonic Orchestra. I can understand why the good folk of Glastonbury
picked these guys as hearing this music pumping out of a tent on a summer's day
whilst holding a pint of cider and wearing a battered trilby is the epitome of
summer time bliss. Gorgeous.
