Wow. Just Wow. This is
potentially the most 80s sounding intro to a song that has been created since
1989 outside of West Germany. Night Sports' forthcoming single, 'Youthquake', is
a strange mix of 80s Europop and Ace Of Base whilst baring a weird resemblance
to one-hit-wonder 'Boys (Summertime Love)' by Sabrina*. There's nothing
particularly wrong with this song but it's not quite fun enough to pure pop
joy. Then again, it's not quite aloof enough to fit in with the
too-cool-for-school pop brigade so, in a sense, it does stand alone. However,
that's a bit like saying that custard on fish'n'chips is good because it's
different - some things just don't hit the spot no matter how original.
*credit to my fine-ass girlfriend for working out that
particular ear worm.
