Dublin quartet The #1s are
something of a super-group, featuring members of Cheap Freaks, Strong Boys, The
Pacifics and Cian Nugent & The Cosmos. What's even more pressing is that
their music is some kind of super too. Latest single, 'Sharon Shouldn't' is two
and a half minutes of rambly, shambly rock'n'roll fun that takes in the
Strokes' earlier stuff, the View, Stages Of Dan and a hat full of 90s Indie
bands that I loved for about 3 months each because the NME/Melody Maker told me
to. The half shouted/half sung vocals battle with the jangly, trashy guitars
and bouncy bass to keep up with the furious drumming in what is hopefully a
sign of more to come. Also, bonus points for getting the name Sharon in to a
song. Kudos.
